Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia women’s golf coach Kim Lewellen announced the team’s 2013-14 schedule today that includes two new tournaments for the Cavaliers in addition to the return of several traditional annual events.

“I’m excited about this schedule and the challenges it presents,” Lewellen said. “Every year we want to travel to different events and courses to test our players against the best teams and programs with the goal of competing in the NCAA Championships.”

UVa returns seven of its top eight scorers from last year including junior Briana Mao, an All-ACC performer last season.

Virginia opens its season Sept. 9-11 at Texas A&M’s Morial Invitational. This will be the Cavaliers’ first trip to the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, since finishing fourth at the 2011 NCAA Championships that was contested at the course.

Lewellen will take her team back to Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship Sept. 20-22 before making the annual trek to Chapel Hill for the Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 11-13. The Cavaliers will wrap up the fall by playing at UNC Wilmington’s Landfall Tradition tournament. It will be UVa’s first appearance there since 2011.

Virginia tees off the spring at Florida State’s unique Match-Up Tournament on Feb. 14-16. The format of the event has each of the 12 participating teams paired with another team and playing with that common opponent over the first two days of the event. The event winner (both team and individual) will be determined in the traditional way with the team and individual at the top of the leaderboards after three rounds being crowned the tournament champions.

The Cavaliers head to Hilton Head, S.C., March 7-9 for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate that includes a pre-tournament concert by the musician the evening before the first round. Virginia makes its second straight appearance at Florida’s SunTrust Gator Invitational March 14-16 in Gainesville.

Virginia will defend its team title at the Bryan National Collegiate scheduled for March 28-30 in Browns Summit, N.C. at Bryan Park Golf Course. The Cavaliers placed first in the 17-team field last spring.

The Atlantic Coast Conference championship returns to Greensboro’s Sedgefield Country Club April 18-20. This year’s tournament will mark the first time new ACC member Notre Dame will compete in the championship.

The NCAA Regional Championships are scheduled for May 8-10 at three different sites and the NCAA Championships will take place May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
