The college baseball summer leagues have hit the stretch run as July winds down.

Six Cavaliers were named to the all-star game of their various summer leagues: Branden Cogswell and Derek Fisher in the Cape Cod League, Nathan Kirby, Cameron Tekker and Kenny Towns in the New England Collegiate Baseball League and John LaPrise in the Northwoods League.

Fisher and Cogswell will play in the Cape Cod League All-Star game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday (July 27). The game will be televised by Fox College Sports. Fisher ranks third in the Cape Cod League with a .365 batting average and fifth with a dozen stolen bases.

LaPrise will play in the Northwoods League All-Star Game at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday (July 23). He continues to lead the league in batting with a .426 average, holding a 52-point lead over the next closest average. He joined UVa teammate Joe McCarthy in leading the Madison Mallards to the first-half South Division title.

Kirby and Tekker each pitched in the NECBL All-Star Game on Sunday in Laconia, N.H., with both pitchers tossing a scoreless inning for the West team. Kirby is currently tied for second in the NECBL with 45 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings while maintaining a 2.42 ERA for Keene. In 12 games out of the bullpen, Tekker is 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA for Saratoga. He has worked 17 2/3 innings and struck out 27. Towns did not play in the all-star game.
