Charleston, S.C. – Incoming freshman women’s golfer Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) won two matches Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the 113th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship taking place in Charleston, S.C.

In the round of 32 of match play, Diaz-Yi toppled Yumi Matsubara of Japan, who finished first in the stroke play portion of the tournament, 2 and 1. In the afternoon she defeated Kendall Prince of Lake Oswego, Ore., 4 and 3. Prince is a rising sophomore at Ohio State.

Diaz-Yi will square off against Doris Chen of Chinese Taipei in Friday’s quarterfinal match that will start at 1:45 p.m. The Golf Channel will show play from the quarterfinals from 4 to 6 p.m. ET.

In June, Diaz-Yi won the USGA’s Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla.
