Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia men’s golf coach Bowen Sargent announced the team’s 2013-14 schedule today that includes a number of traditional tournament appearances and several new events.

“We have mixed it up a bit, but there are a lot of tough tournaments for our team to compete in this season,” Sargent said. “We’ll open in Chicago, like we did last year, and end the fall at the U.S. Collegiate, which is one of the best-run tournaments in college golf. The spring is pretty familiar territory except we’ll play at NC State’s tournament to help us prepare for the ACC Championships and it is also the site of the nearest NCAA regional to our location.”

UVa returns six of its top seven scorers from last year including junior Denny McCarthy, an All-ACC performer last season. Returning to the lineup will be Ben Rusch, the 2012 ACC individual champion. Rusch redshirted the 2012-13 campaign.

Virginia opens its season Sept. 6-8 at the Northern Open in Sugar Grove, Ill. Last season McCarthy won the tournament and helped the Cavaliers to a fifth-place finish at the event.

Sargent will take his team to his home state of Tennessee on Sept. 20-22 for The Ingraham, to be played at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Nashville. The Cavaliers return to the Volunteer state for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 11-13 at Blackthorn Golf Club in Johnson City. UVa wraps up the fall with an appearance at the U.S. Collegiate, held at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta. The tournament always features one of the top fields of the fall season.

Virginia opens the spring at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. on March 10-11 and then returns to the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. on March 14-16 before closing out the month at Hootie @ Bulls Bay in Charleston, S.C. on March 23-25.

The Cavaliers will play in NC State’s Wolfpack Intercollegiate April 19-20 before heading to New London, N.C. for the ACC Championships. This year’s tournament runs April 25-27 at the Old North State Club.

The NCAA Regional Championships are scheduled for May 15-17 at six different sites and the NCAA Championships will take place May 27-31 at the Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kan.
