CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia women’s tennis head coach Mark Guilbeau has named senior Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) captain for the 2013-14 season.

“It is a pleasure to have Caryssa Peretz accept the position of team captain for the 2013-14 year,” Guilbeau said. “Caryssa has been committed to the UVa program for many years, even before arriving in Charlottesville. As a young junior player, Caryssa was very open and enthusiastic about her interest in UVa and this program. To see her develop into a leader and captain for this team is very rewarding and very much deserved. Caryssa is a fighter on the court and will continue to be a great example for her teammates. We are also excited about the leadership characteristics present within all members of this year’s team. Despite being in the very initial stages of practice, we have already seen a high level of chemistry, togetherness, desire and caring from this group. Caryssa will certainly be a strong leader and her teammates will give her great support as well.”

Peretz has recorded a 73-34 career singles record and 36-22 doubles mark in helping Virginia to three consecutive NCAA round of 16 appearances. Peretz posted a 21-9 mark last season, including a perfect 9-0 mark in ACC dual action.

Peretz has reached No. 89 in the ITA singles rankings and has advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Atlantic Regional in each of the past two seasons. Peretz has also earned All-ACC Academic Team and ACC Honor Roll honors.
