The Cavaliers contest against the Nittany Lions is the squad’s first top-10 showdown of season. In all, Virginia will face nine teams ranked in the preseason top-20 including all six ACC foes. All seven ACC teams open the season ranked in the top 20 with five teams (North Carolina, Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia and Duke) ranked in the top 10.

Virginia is coming off a 3-2 victory over Louisville in Friday’s opener. Senior Elly Buckley (Scarborough, Perth, Australia) scored a goal, logged an assist and made a defensive save in the victory. A pair of freshmen making their collegiate debuts accounted for the Cavalier’s other goals. Riley Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored the first goal of the season for UVa, tapping in a long pass from Buckley just under two minutes into the game. Caleigh Foust (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) scored the third UVa goal.

Penn State began its season with a tough road match against No. 8 Old Dominion on Friday evening. The Lions staged an impressive three-goal second half after trailing 1-0 at the break to grab the win in the season-opener.

Penn State holds a 15-5 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last two meetings including a 3-2 game last season in Happy Valley. The Cavaliers’ last victory over the Nittany Lions was a 3-0 game in 2010.
