CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 20th-ranked Virginia men’s soccer team looks for a quick rebound from a season-opening defeat as it plays host to No. 19 St. John’s at 7 p.m. Monday at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers went down to the wire with No. 10 Louisville on Friday before falling, 2-1, in an exciting match.

Tickets/Parking
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors and faculty/staff. Group ticket orders of 20 or more tickets are $4. Free parking is available in the University Hall lots.
Rankings
The Cavaliers are ranked 20th nationally in the preseason Soccer America rankings and 25th in the NSCAA coaches poll. St. John’s owns a No. 19 national ranking according to Soccer America.
Noting the Season Opener
Virginia dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 10 Louisville Friday evening in the teams’ regular-season opener at Klöckner Stadium. Scott Thomsen (So., Brick, N.J.) scored his first career goal in the defeat for UVa.
The game was evenly played throughout. Both teams finished with 10 shots, with Louisville putting three on goal, while UVa had two shots on goal. Virginia racked up 19 fouls, while UL was whistled for 16 fouls.
Goalkeeper Jeff Gal (R-So., Bartlett, Ill.) made one save in his first start and appearance for UVa, while freshmen Jordan Allen (Rochester, N.Y.) and Nicko Corriveau (Potomac, Md.) also made their first career starts for the Cavaliers.
Stiff Schedule Continues
St. John’s marks the second ranked opponent on the Cavaliers’ schedule this year. The Cavaliers have five ranked foes remaining on their schedule, based on the preseason polls. SJU also marks the second of nine programs which reached the 2012 NCAA Tournament on the UVa schedule this year.
Virginia-St. John’s Series
Virginia holds a 4-1 edge in the series with St. John’s, with all five games taking place in Charlottesville. SJU’s lone win over UVa came in 2008.
Noting St. John’s
St. John’s opened its season with a 2-1 home win Friday over NJIT. Jimmy Mulligan and Sean Sepe each scored for the Red Storm. St. John’s finished the game with a 20-7 edge in shots and added a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
SJU was selected to finish fourth in the BIG EAST. Rafael Diaz was named the Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, while Tim Parker earned Preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors.
The Red Storm went 10-5-4 last season and reached the first round of the NCAA tournament before dropping a 1-0 match to Fairleigh Dickinson.

Virginia opens ACC play at 8 p.m. Friday when it travels to Clemson. ESPN3 will have a webcast of the match. The Cavaliers then have a week off before traveling to Wake Forest on Sept. 13.
