TORONTO – Former Virginia all-american Michael Shabaz (Class of 2011), had a strong showing this week at the Futures Circuit event in Toronto. Shabaz reached the semifinals of the tournament.

Shabaz, currently ranked No. 457 in the world, reached the semifinals with three victories. He defeated qualifier Martin Beran in the first round, 6-4, 6-2. In the second round, he downed Robert Rotaru 6-3, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, he edged former Kentucky All-American Eric Quigley 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1. Shabaz’s run came to an end in the semifinals, falling to No. 1 seed Peter Polansky, the world No. 223, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
