Sugar Grove, Ill. – The Virginia men’s golf team moved up to third place at the Northern Intercollegiate after posting the best team score during the event’s second round. The Cavaliers shot 3-over 291 and stand at 4-over 580 entering Sunday’s final round. Houston continues to lead the 15-team field at 4-under 572. Liberty is in second place at 577.

Virginia’s Denny McCarthy, the tournament medalist last year, moved up to seventh place overall at 1-under 143 after shooting even par. Freshman Jimmy Stranger is in 10th place after 36 holes at even part 144. He shot 74 during Saturday’s play.

Ji Soo Park carded UVa’s best second-round score, shooting 2-under 70 to improve to 17th place at 146. David Pastore remained in 19th place at 147 and Nick Tremps is 83rd at 167.

Houston’s Roman Robledo will take a one-shot lead into Sunday’s final round. He stands at 6-under 138, a single stroke ahead of Kentucky’s David Snyder.

The third round will get underway at 8 a.m. Sunday.
