Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia women’s golf team opens its fall season Monday at Texas A&M’s “Mo”Morial Tournament at the par-72, 6,206-yard Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. The 54-hole event will run through Wednesday. The first two days of play will start at 9 a.m. and the final round will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Virginia enters the tournament ranked 16th in the National Golf Coaches Association’s preseason poll.

The 11-team field includes UCF, East Carolina, Elon, Florida State, Kentucky, Redlands CC, Rollins, Texas A&M, UT-Pan Am, UTSA and Virginia.

The Cavaliers lineup will include seniors Elizabeth Brightwell and Portland Rosen, junior Briana Mao, sophomore Lauren Coughlin and freshman Lauren Diaz-Yi. Three others UVa players – junior Kaira Martin, freshman Evelyn Dole and sophomore Alex Hershberger, will compete as individuals. Their results will not count toward the team scoring.

Virginia played at the Traditions Club in 2011 when the NCAA Championships were held there. The Cavaliers placed fourth at that tournament.

The “Mo”Morial is named for former Aggie golfer Monica Welsh, who lettered at Texas A&M from 1878 to 1982. She died in an automobile accident in 1992.
