Johnson City, Tenn. – The 14th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team is in 10th place following the opening round of play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate taking place in Johnson City, Tenn. The Cavaliers shot 7-over 295 during the first round. Host school East Tennessee State leads the field at 11-under 277.

Virginia was led by freshman Derek Bard who shot 1-under 71 to finish the opening round in 15th place. Denny McCarthy and Ben Rusch are two strokes behind Bard and tied for 29th. Jimmy Stanger is in 64th place after shooting 78 and Ji Soo Park is 71st with an 81. , competing as an individual, is also tied for 15th after carding a 71.

East Tennessee State’s Rhys Pugh leads the field after shooting 6-under 66.

The second round of the tournament is set for Saturday and the final round will be played Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
