Johnson City, Tenn. – The 14th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team posted one of the lowest rounds in its history, shooting 16-under 272, to move into third place after 36 holes of play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. UVa enters Sunday’s final round at 9-under 567, three shots behind tournament leading Kent State.

Cavalier freshman Derek Bard shot 8-under 64 to move into a tie for first place after two rounds with a cumulative score of 9-under 135. Bard’s score was just one stroke shy of equaling the Virginia single-round scoring mark.

Junior Denny McCarthy also made a strong move on the leaderboard, shooting 6-under 66 to improve to sixth place at 5-under 139. Ben Rusch is in 29th place at 145, Ji Soo Park is 56th at 151 and Jimmy Stanger is 58th at 152.

Park shot 70, Rusch posted a score of 72 and Stanger finished the second round with a 74. , playing as an individual, is in 24th place at even par 144.

Virginia will tee off at 10:10 a.m. Sunday to start its final round. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
