CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Blue team scored three runs in the sixth inning to rally and knock off the Orange squad, 5-4, Tuesday evening in Game 5 of the Orange and Blue World Series. The Blue evened the second mini series at a game apiece, with the deciding game in the series coming at 6 p.m. Friday.

The Orange captured the first mini-series, two games to one, and has won three of the five games in the series. The Orange and Blue World Series wraps up on Sunday with Game 7 at 1 p.m.

Alec Bettinger (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.) picked up the win for the Blue with five innings of relief. He allowed just one run, but retired the final 14 batters he faced. He gave up just three hits and struck out two. He relieved fellow freshman Connor Jones (Chesapeake, Va.), who gave up three runs and 10 hits in four innings.

Ben Carraway (Fr., Canton, Ga.) took the loss for the Orange team after giving up three runs in the sixth inning. Jack Roberts (Fr., Richmond, Va.) started for the Orange and worked five solid innings, allowing two earned runs and six hits while fanning one.

Scott Williams (R-Fr., Berwyn, Pa.) hit the game-tying two-run double in the sixth inning and drove in three runs for the Blue, which racked up 11 hits as four players recorded two knocks each, including Nick Howard (Jr., Olney, Md.), who had a pair of doubles and scored twice.

Kevin Doherty (So., Laytonsville, Md.) picked up three hits to lead a 13-hit day for the Orange.

The Orange took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After the Orange loaded the bases on three straight two-out singles, Rob Bennie (So., Stroudsburg, Pa.) lined a double just inside the first-baseline to plate Derek Fisher (Jr., Rexmont, Pa.) and Nate Irving (Jr., Yonkers, N.Y.)

The Blue promptly responded with a run in the second on Williams sacrifice fly to foul territory in right field, but the Orange countered in its half of the inning on a Fisher RBI single.

The teams again traded runs in the fifth inning. The Blue got a run in its half of the frame on a John La Prise (So., Exton, Pa.) single to score Thomas Woodruff (Jr., Clifton, Va.), but the Orange again answered when Branden Cogswell (Jr., Ballston Lake, N.Y.) singled to bring Bennie home.

The Blue forged ahead with a three-run sixth inning. After Brandon Downes (Jr., South Plainfield, N.J.) singled and Howard walked, Williams stroked a two-run double to right-center, scoring both runners to tie the game. Williams stole third, and Woodruff drew a walk. Woodruff and Williams then combined on a double steal, with Woodruff swiping second and Williams beating the throw back to the plate to give the Blue their first lead at 5-4.
