Alpharetta, Ga. – The 14th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team ended its fall season on a high note by finishing fourth at the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga. The Cavaliers shot even par 288 Sunday to complete the 54-hole tournament at 1-under 863.

Oklahoma State, ranked No. 5, held off No. 2 Georgia Tech for the team title. The Cowboys finished at 15-under 849, one shot better than the Yellow Jackets, who were playing on their home course. Wake Forest was third, one stroke ahead of UVa.

Virginia senior Ben Rusch led the Cavaliers with a second-place finish. Rusch shot 2-under 70 during the final round of play for a three-day total of 6-under 210. Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans took medalist honors at 10-under 206. It was the eighth top-10 finish during Rusch’s career.

Denny McCarthy finished 15th for Virgina at 2-under 214. He shot even par 72 on Sunday. Nick McLaughlin was 34th at 219, Derek Bard was 44th at 222 and Ji Soo Park was 70th at 222. All three players shot 1-over 73 during the final round.

The U.S. Collegiate Championship is considered one of the top fall events on the collegiate circuit. The field featured nine of the top 25 ranked teams in the nation. The Cavaliers finished ahead of No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 9 Stanford and No. 10 Washington.
