Wilmington, N.C. – The 30th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied for sixth place after Friday’s opening round of competition at The Landfall Tradition tournament taking place in Wilmington, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 18-over 306 and are tied with Wake Forest. Alabama, ranked 10th, leads the 18-team field at 3-under 285. No. 4 Duke is second at 295.

Portland Rosen led Virginia by shooting 1-over 73 to finish the first day in seventh place. Lauren Coughlin is 25th at 76, Lauren Diaz-Yi is 39th at 78, Briana Mao is 47th at 79 and Elizabeth Brightwell is 60th at 81. Evie Dole, playing as a non-scoring individual, is in 89th place after shooting 87.

Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow leads the field after shooting 2-under 70. A total of 12 of the 18 teams competing are ranked in the top-30 of the current Golfstat poll.

The second round of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday and the final round takes place Sunday.
