CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior men’s tennis player Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) advanced to the second round of the Charlottesville Challenger, during the first day of main draw play at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Frank won his first round match Monday at the $75,000 event on the USTA Pro Circuit, as did a pair of Virginia alumni.

Frank defeated Rik De Voest of South Africa, ranked No. 169 in the world, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Frank will play either fourth-seeded Donald Young (ATP 104) or qualifier Joshua Milton in the second round.

Also winning on Monday were Ted Angelinos (Class of 2008) and Jarmere Jenkins (Class of 2013). Angelinos knocked out the No. 6 seed, world No. 123 Alex Kuznetsov, who reached the final of the tournament last season. Jenkins topped his former teammate and doubles partner, sophomore Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.). Jenkins and Angelinos will meet in round two.

Tuesday’s schedule is highlighted by another Cavalier alumnus, Somdev Devvarman (Class of 2008). Jenkins will also be in doubles action on Tuesday. The tournament runs through Sunday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
