FLUSHING, N.Y. – Virginia sophomore Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) moved on to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Singles Championship Friday (Nov. 8) in Flushing, N.Y.

No. 9 Elbaba posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 10 Breaunna Addison of Texas in the round of 16 and will play No. 1 Sabrina Santamaria of USC in the quarterfinals on Saturday (Nov. 9).

In other singles round of 16 action, UCLA’s Jennifer Brady defeated UVa freshman Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.) 7-5, 6-4.

No. 74 Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) retired during her first set against Vanderbilit’s Georgina Sellyn in round of 16 consolation action.

Virginia seniors Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Li Xi (Kunming, China), sophomores Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) and freshman Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) competed in singles and doubles at the UNC Invite.

Virginia won seven of nine singles and doubles matches. Xi and Faure went 2-0 in doubles, defeating Maryland’s Alexandra Stanova and Cassandre Thebault, 8-7, and Minnesota’s Tereza Brichacova and Jessika Mozia, 8-4. Nauta and Epstein defeated Maryland’s Olivia Gaudreault and Nataliya Bredikhina, 8-1. Epstein and Peretz were defeated 8-5 by Minnesota’s Julia Courter and Kendall Heitzner.

Xi, Faure, Nauta and Peretz each posted singles wins against players from South Carolina. Xi beat Elixane Lechemia 6-3, 6-2 and Faure beat Meghan Blevins 7-6(5), 6-4. Nauta beat Caroline Daily 6-4, 6-2, while Peretz beat Alex Martin 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(8). Epstein lost to Brigit Folland 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(4).
