Harris Named to the Walter Camp All-America Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia football player Anthony Harris was named to the Walter Camp All-America team, announced the Walter Camp Football Foundation on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show, Thursday night in Orlando, Fla. Harris is a second-team honoree and one of 12 players from the Atlantic Coast Conference named to one of the two Walter Camp All-America teams.

The Walter Camp All-America team, the nation’s oldest college football All-America squad is in its 124th year selecting the nation’s best football players. Harris is the 10th Cavalier all-time to be recognized on the Walter Camp All-America team and the first since offensive lineman Eugene Monroe was a second-team mention in 2008. Harris is the first defensive back and only the third defensive player from UVa honored with Walter Camp All-America honors. Defensive ends Chris Slade (1992) and Chris Long (2007) each earned first-team honors during their time on Grounds.

Harris (Chesterfield, Va.) leads the nation with eight interceptions, which included a UVa record five-straight games with a pick. The eight interceptions place Harris in a three-way tie with Ronde Barber (1994) and Kevin Cook (1987) for No. 2 all-time at UVa for picks in a season. Harris finished the regular season No. 5 in the ACC with 1.2 passes defended per game and is No. 24 in the ACC overall in tackles. Harris started the season with a key block and second-half interception in UVa’s season-opening win over BYU. The effort earned Harris the accolade of the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.

Harris has also been named to first-team on both the media and coaches All-ACC squads.
