CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 13th-ranked Virginia wrestling team has earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Virginia Duals, as the brackets were announced Monday. By virtue of their top seed in the tournament, the Cavaliers (8-2) claimed a first-round bye and will wrestle the winner of the Arizona State-Chattanooga dual at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va.

Kent State, The Citadel, Bucknell and Bloomsburg also share the top portion of the bracket with the Cavaliers. The tournament is a double-elimination format.

Regardless of the outcome in the quarterfinals, Virginia will compete just once on Friday. The Cavaliers will move on to either the loser’s bracket at 10 a.m. Saturday or the semifinals at 2 p.m. The championship and third-place matches both are slated for 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The other seeded teams in the event are Edinboro (2), Virginia Tech (3), Bloomsburg (4), Kent State (5), Rider (6), Old Dominion (7) and Chattanooga (8).

Virginia is competing for the 20th time in the 34-year history of the Virginia Duals. UVa earned a runner-up finish at the 2013 Virginia Duals, marking the Cavaliers’ best finish ever at the event.
