CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track & field teams will compete in its first two-day meet of the season this week as they travel to the University of Kentucky for the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet on Friday and Saturday at the Nutter Field House.

The meet begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the start of the multi-event competitions. The field events start at 3 p.m. and the track events begin at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, the multi-event competitions start at 10 a.m. and the track and field events begin at noon.

Virginia will take on a strong field at the event. The men will face four teams ranked in the preseason top 25 (No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Oregon, No. 18 Baylor, No. 24 Alabama), along with Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Miami, Missouri, Northern Kentucky, Ohio State, Tennessee and the host Wildcats. The women will compete against three of the top six teams in the nation (No. 3 Florida, No 4 Oregon, No. 6 Kentucky), along with Alabama, Baylor, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois, Miami, Missouri, Northern Kentucky and Tennessee.

The Cavaliers have posted strong performances during their first two meets of the season. Five Virginia men currently rank among the nation’s top 30 athletes in their respective events. Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.) ranks 10th nationally in the 5000m, Payton Hazzard (Huntington, N.Y.) ranks 25th in the 200m, Anthony Kostelac (Charlottesville, Va.) ranks 27th in the 800m, Drequan Hoskey (Richmond, Va,) ranks 28th in the 60m hurdles and Ed Schrom (Harrisburg, Pa.) is 30th in the mile. On the women’s side, Vanessa Fabrizio(Denver, Colo.) ranks fourth nationally in the 800m.

Virginia will return to action on Feb. 7-8 with the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet.
