DALLAS – Virginia senior Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) advanced to the main draw at the Challenger of Dallas, a $100,000 event on the ATP Challenger Tour. Shane won three matches in qualifying to reach the main draw.

Shane will play third-seeded Tim Smyczek, currently ranked No. 100 in the world, in the first round of the main draw.

In Monday’s final round of qualifying, Shane downed world No. 372 Wilson Leite of Brazil, 6-2, 6-1. Earlier in the week, he posted a 6-7(4), 6-2, 7-5 win over Dennis Novikov, who played No. 1 singles for NCAA runner up UCLA last season, in the second round. That win came after a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andrew Carter, who played collegiately at Louisville, in the first round of qualifying.

Virginia will return to team action when it travels to Houston, Texas for this year’s ITA National Team Indoors, which will run Feb. 14-17. The Cavaliers are the reigning ITA Indoor champions and have won the title five of the last six seasons.
