CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The Virginia women’s basketball team (12-11, 5-5 ACC) faces Georgia Tech (16-8, 6-5 ACC) on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
The game will be carried on the radio on WINA- 1070 AM with John Freeman calling the action. The game action will also be streamed live online with a video feed on ESPN3.
The game between the Cavaliers and Yellow Jackets was originally scheduled for Thursday, but the combination of a massive ice storm in Atlanta and a snowstorm in Charlottesville caused the game to be pushed back to Friday.
Virginia holds a 51-12 advantage in the all-time series, but the Yellow Jackets have won three of the last four meetings. The two teams split last season’s series with Virginia earning a 62-51 victory in Atlanta and Georgia Tech prevailing 65-62 in Charlottesville.
Georgia Tech comes into the game having won three-straight including an 89-87 victory at Miami on Sunday (Feb. 9). Tech senior guard Tyaunna Marshall, who is the reigning ACC Player of the Week and espnW’s National Player of the Week, averaged 26.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game with a .500 field goal percentage last week as Georgia Tech picked up three ACC wins, including a victory against No. 13/11 North Carolina. Marshall comes into Thursday’s game needing 20 points to become the first player in Georgia Tech program history to score 2,000 career points.
Virginia comes into the game after a bye weekend. The Cavaliers had won four of their last five games before falling 69-65 at Boston College last Thursday (Feb. 6). The Cavaliers held a 15-point lead with 11:05 remaining in the game, but Boston College mounted a 19-2 run. Senior guard Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.) made a pair of three-pointers in the final 30 seconds, narrowing the gap to one, 66-65, but Boston College made three free throws in the final seven seconds to cement the victory.
Franklin led UVa with 15 points against the Eagles, her sixth-straight game scoring in double figures. In the last two games, Franklin is 6-of-8 from three-point range and 11-of-20 overall. Franklin also had five assists against the Eagles, matching the mark she had in the previous game against Clemson.
Franklin has scored in double-digits in each of the last six games, averaging 17.1 points per game in that span.
Redshirt senior guard Lexie Gerson (Fort Washington, Pa.) logged 14 points with six assists, five steals and a block at BC. Gerson has made at least one three-point basket in each of the last seven games. In the last four games, Gerson is 6-of-10 from three-point range with 17 assists and 15 steals. Against Clemson and BC, Gerson was a combined 10-of-15 from the field, scoring 27 points.
Gerson currently leads the ACC in steals and is ranked 20th in the nation, averaging 2.7 per game. She also has the best assist-to-turnover ratio of any conference players in ACC games at 2.9.
The Cavaliers rank 18th in the nation and lead the ACC with a +5.2 turnover margin. Against conference opponents, Virginia’s turnover margin improves to +6.8. Maryland has the second-best turnover margin in ACC games at +2.4. Virginia has not committed more turnovers than an ACC opponent this season. Virginia has only had more turnovers than their opponent four times this season.
The Cavaliers return home on Sunday, Feb. 16 when they host Virginia Tech at 2 p.m., one of three remaining home games in the regular season, the Cavaliers’ annual Play4Kay Game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.

Single-game ticket prices for all games are $10 for Reserved seating, $8 for adult General Admission and $6 for youth (18 & under), senior (60 & over) and UVa faculty/staff General Admission. Family Packages are available for $11 each and include a reserved ticket and a concessions voucher valued at $8. A minimum of four tickets must be purchased to receive package pricing.
