CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (12-12, 5-6 ACC) hosts Virginia Tech (11-13, 1-10 ACC) on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. in the annual Play4Kay “Pink Game” at John Paul Jones Arena.
The game will be carried on the radio on WINA- 1070 AM with John Freeman, Larry Johnson and Myron Ripley calling the action.
As part of the annual Play4Kay game, both teams will be wearing pink jerseys on Sunday and fans are encouraged to also wear pink to the game. Play4Kay, formerly known as the WBCA Pink Zone game, is an initiative that began in 2007 in an effort from coaches to raise breast cancer awareness that is named after the late North Carolina State head coach, Kay Yow.
This is the second meeting of the season between the two teams. On Jan. 9, Virginia earned a 67-60 road victory in Blacksburg. Virginia trailed by 17 points in the first half and faced a 12-point deficit, 49-37, with 13:41 remaining in the game. After initially tying the game on a layup from senior guard Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.) with 3:51 remaining, the Cavaliers trailed by two points, 60-58, going into the final two minutes of the game. Virginia scored nine points in the final 1:42, including seven points by Franklin, to earn its first conference win of the season. Franklin finished the game with 23 points, with 19 of those coming in the second half. Senior guard Kelsey Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) scored 12 points, going 4-of-8 from the field. Junior center Sarah Imovbioh (Abuja, Nigeria) had a game-high 14 rebounds.
Virginia holds a 42-10 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last 15 meetings between the two teams. Since Virginia Tech joined the ACC for the 2004-05 season, the Cavaliers are 17-2 against the Hokies in regular-season conference contests.
Virginia Tech posted a 10-3 mark against non-conference opponents this season, but has lost 11 of its last 12 games with its only conference victory coming in a 70-63 overtime game against Boston College. The Hokies last two games have been heartbreaking losses, falling 72-71 in overtime to NC State and 65-64 at Wake Forest on Thursday (Feb. 13).
Virginia will have a quick turnaround after falling 95-76 Friday night at Georgia Tech, a game that was originally scheduled for Thursday but was pushed back a day because of travel issues caused by an ice storm in Atlanta and a snow storm in Charlottesville. Imovbioh matched a career-high, scoring 21 points. Redshirt senior guard Lexie Gerson (Fort Washington, Pa.) matched her season-high with 18 points while also grabbing eight rebounds. Gerson, who leads the ACC in steals, had two against the Yellow Jackets, moving her into fifth place on the Virginia career steals list.
Next up, the Cavaliers will host No. 17/10 North Carolina on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC Regional Sports Networks.

Single-game ticket prices for all games are $10 for Reserved seating, $8 for adult General Admission and $6 for youth (18 & under), senior (60 & over) and UVa faculty/staff General Admission. Family Packages are available for $11 each and include a reserved ticket and a concessions voucher valued at $8. A minimum of four tickets must be purchased to receive package pricing.
