CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (1-3, 0-1 ACC) hosts No. 8 Penn State (2-1, 0-0 ALC) on Saturday, March 1 at 12 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.

Virginia is playing its fourth-straight home game and its fourth game of the season against a top-10 ranked opponent. Virginia is 1-2 at home and 0-3 against ranked opponents this season.
Virginia holds an 18-16 edge in the all-time series against Penn State, but the Nittany Lions have won the last two meetings including 15-14 last season in Charlottesville. Virginia had won six-straight matchups prior to dropping a 14-7 game in Happy Valley in 2012.
The Cavaliers and Nittany Lions are ranked No. 9 and 8, respectively, in this week’s IWLCA Coaches’ Poll, the same rankings they each held last week. However, Penn State dipped from No. 7 to No. 8 in this week’s Brine Media Poll after losing to No. 3 Maryland, 14-7 (Feb. 22). Virginia dropped from No. 13 to No. 16 after falling to No. 2 Syracuse, 18-14, on Sunday (Feb. 25).
Penn State and Virginia are tied for 28th in the nation, averaging 14.0 goals per game and are also tied for 23rd in the nation in draw controls, averaging 14.5 per game. The Nittany Lions are 17th in caused turnovers, averaging 11.50 per game, while Virginia causes 9.25 per contest.
Junior Courtney Swan (Vero Beach, Fla.) continued her season-long streak of scoring at least a hat trick each game with a four-goal performance against Syracuse. Swan, who had six points in the game, her second time this season logging a half-dozen points in a contest, is tied for sixth in the ACC and 11th in the nation with a 5.0 points-per-game average. Swan, averaging 3.75 goals per game, ranks third in the ACC and 36th in the nation. She also ranks second in the ACC and 17th in the nation with 6.0 draws per game.
Senior Maddy Keeshan (Greenwich, Ct.) had her second hat trick of the season against the Orange, with a three-goal performance. Keeshan, who scored eight goals in her first three seasons with the Cavaliers, is third on the team in goal scoring this season with nine.
Senior Liza Blue (Butler, Md.) scored one goal against Syracuse, extending her streak of games in which she has scored, which extends back to last season, to 10. Blue is second on the team with 10 goals.
Senior goalkeeper Liz Colgan (Cockeysville, Md.) continues to lead the ACC in saves per game, averaging 10.25 per contest.
The Cavaliers close out the current homestand on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. when they host No. 1 North Carolina.Single-game reserved seats are available for all women’s home games for $7. Single-game general admission adult tickets for women’s home games are $5, while youth (18 and under), seniors (60 and over), and UVa faculty and staff tickets are $4 each.
