Statesboro, Ga. – The No. 7 Virginia men’s golf team is in eighth place after 36 holes of play at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The Cavaliers shot 3-under 285 Saturday for a two-day total of 575. Georgia Southern, the host school, leads the field at 562.

UVa freshman Jimmy Stanger used a career-best round of 5-under 67 to move up to third place in the standings at 5-under 139. Stanger enters Sunday’s final round just one stroke behind co-leaders Kramer Hickok of Texas and Martin Rohwer of UAB.

Denny McCarthy is in 28th place for UVa at 145 after shooting 3-over 75. Derek Bard and Nick McLaughlin are tied for 33rd at 146. Bard shot 71 during the second day while McLaughlin finished his round with a 72. Ben Rusch is in 58th place at 150. , competing as an individual, is also tied for 33rd at 146.

The final round of the tournament will take place Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
