CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team had six players named to the 2013 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA National Academic Squad. The entire Cavalier team was also honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association with the 2013 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA National Academic Team Award.

The Cavaliers were one of 66 programs this year to have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, earning them the Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Academic Team Award.

The Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year. Four of Virginia’s six athletes named to the squad – seniors Hadley Bell (Shaker Heights, Ohio), Elizabeth Hanks (Hummelstown, Pa.), Lane Smith (Ottawa Hills, Ohio) and Katie Robinson (Mount Joy, Pa.) – earned the honor for the fourth time in their careers. Juniors Jenny Johnston (Paisley, Scotland) and Jess Orrett (Wells, Somerset, England) were also named to the list.
