OKLAHOMA CITY – The Virginia wrestling team opened competition at the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Thursday at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. Four Cavaliers won their opening matches to advance in the winners’ bracket on Thursday evening.

Gus Sako (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio), Blaise Butler (R-So., Belvidere, Ill.), Nick Sulzer (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) and Stephen Doty (R-Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) all won their first-round matches to advance to the round of 16 this evening.

In the early team standings, UVa has four points and is tied for 26th place.

The second round begins at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday. ESPNU will have the television coverage, while ESPN3 will have separate feeds of all eight mats. A link to live brackets also will be available at VirginiaSports.com, while live updates will be provided on the Virginia Wrestling Twitter account, @UVaWrestling.
