CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track & field teams will open the outdoor season Saturday as they host the Virginia Cup at Lannigan Field. The Cavaliers will take on five in-state foes, Hampton, James Madison, Liberty, Norfolk State and Radford, in the team-scored meet.

The meet begins at 11:30 a.m. with the start of field events. The running events begin at 2 p.m. Admission to the meet is free and live results will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

In action for the Cavaliers will be four athletes who earned All-ACC honors during the indoor season. ACC indoor 400m champion Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.), who also finished second in the 200m, will highlight the women’s competitors, while Mike Marsella (Hope Valley, R.I.), who finished second in the 800m, Thomas Porter (Fredericksburg, Va.), who was third in the 3000m, and triple jumper Ryan Satchell (Central Islip, N.Y.) , who finished third at ACCs, will be in action Saturday on the men’s side. The women’s lineup also includes All-Americans Dallas Rose (Pearland, Texas) in the triple jump and Abbey Karin(Byfield, Mass.) in the javelin, who will both make their 2014 debuts this weekend.

Virginia will return to action next week with athletes competing at a pair of meets. The Cavaliers will send athletes to NC State for the Raleigh Relays and to the Texas Relays in Austin.
