CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track & field teams will split up this week to compete at two meets on Friday and Saturday. A group of sprinters and field event athletes will challenge an elite field at the Texas Relays in Austin, while distance runners, hurdlers and other field event athletes will compete against a strong field at the Raleigh Relays at NC State.

Virginia will send 11 athletes to the Texas Relays, which runs Friday-Saturday in Austin. Seven sprinters, including ACC indoor 400m champion Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.), will compete at the meet. The field event competitors consist of triple jumpers Ryan Satchell (Central Islip, N.Y.) and Dallas Rose (Pearland, Texas) and throwers Abbey Karin (Byfield, Mass.) and Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina).

The Cavaliers will have 29 athletes competing at the Raleigh Relays Friday and Saturday at NC State. The men’s and women’s distance runners, including 2013 All-American Thomas Porter (Fredericksburg, Va.), are scheduled to compete. The meet is the only time the Cavalier men will have a chance to run the 10000m prior to next month’s ACC Championships. Also in action will be Virginia’s hurdlers and throwers, including first-years Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) and Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.), who both posted career top-10 performances in their outdoor collegiate debuts last week in the shot put and javelin, respectively.

Virginia returns home next week to host a tri-meet with California and Michigan on April 5 at Lannigan Field.
