CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.–The Virginia softball team dropped both legs of a doubleheader at Boston College, 5-1 and 9-1, Saturday at Shea Field. With the losses, the Cavaliers fell to 8-42 (1-24 ACC), while the Eagles improved to 26-19 (11-11 ACC).

In the first game, Tory Speer hit a two-run home run in the third inning as BC went on to win 5-1. The Cavaliers’ lone run came when junior Heidi Velk (Murrieta, Calif.) singled in the sixth and scored on a double by freshman Iyana Hughes (Manteca, Calif.).

Nicole D’Argento (16-12) took the win for BC, allowing one run in six innings with seven strikeouts. Sophomore Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) gave up five runs in six innings in the loss.

In the second game, Speer hit her second two-run home run of the day and Jordan Weed hit a three-run home run in the sixth as the Eagles won, 9-1.

Hughes got the Cavaliers on the board in the first, scoring on a wild pitch. Chapdelaine (8-35) took the loss, pitching the complete game.

Weed (10-7) picked up the win for BC, allowing one run in six innings.

The two teams will conclude the series Sunday (April 27) with first pitch scheduled for noon. It will mark the Cavaliers’ season finale.
