UVa Women's Golfers Receive Bid to NCAA East Regional

Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 20 Virginia women’s golf team is the No. 7 seed at the NCAA East Regional Championship the NCAA announced today. The tournament will be held at the Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., May 8-10. It marks the 10th straight year Virginia has received a bid to the NCAA Championships.

The top eight schools from each of three 24-team regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championships along with the top two individuals not advancing from a team from each site. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

Virginia will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the seventh time in the program’s 11-year history.

The East Regional features nine teams currently ranked in the Golfstat top-25 poll. The highest ranked team in the field is No. 3 Duke, the 2014 ACC Champions.

Virginia is one of nine ACC teams to receive an invitation to this year’s national championship. Duke is the No. 1 seed in the East while NC State is the No. 9 seed and host school Florida State is the No. 10 team. North Carolina is the No. 8 seed in the Central, Miami is the No. 10 seed at that site. Clemson is the No. 5 seed in the West while Wake Forest is the region’s No. 6 seed and Notre Dame is No. 18.

This will be UVa’s second trip to the Southwood Golf Club this season. The Cavaliers finished fourth in the 11-team FSU Match-Up tournament to open the spring season in mid-February.

East Regional
The East regional will be played at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., and will be hosted by Florida State. Conference automatic qualifiers are indicated in parenthesis next to the institution.
