CHARLOTTESVILLE – Guard Marial Shayok (Ottawa, Canada/Blair Academy) has signed a financial aid agreement with the Virginia men’s basketball program, head coach Tony Bennett announced Monday (May 5).

The 6-6, 200-pound Shayok was named the New Jersey Prep Player of the Year after leading Blair Academy (19-6) to the Prep A State Championship. Shayok was named all-state and all-conference after averaging 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists under head coach Joe Mantegna.

“We are fortunate to add Marial to this year’s recruiting class,” said Bennett, who guided Virginia to both the ACC regular season and tournament titles last season. “Marial is a versatile, team player who is skilled and athletic. We believe he will be a great addition to our program.”

Shayok averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a junior at Blair Academy. The squad finished with a 17-9 overall record and advanced to the state’s prep championship contest. He was also named to the all-state and all-conference teams.

Shayok joins center Jack Salt (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Boys High School), guard B.J. Stith (Lawrenceville, Va./Oak Hill Academy) and forward Isaiah Wilkins (Lilburn, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian School) as Virginia’s incoming recruits for the 2014-15 season.
