CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three Virginia wrestlers were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s 2014 All-Academic Team, announced Wednesday by the NWCA. NCAA tournament participants Jon Fausey (R-Sr., Dalmatia, Pa.), Joe Spisak (R-Jr., Boiling Springs, Pa.) and Nick Sulzer (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) each claimed the distinction.

Fausey was named to the NWCA All-Academic Team for the fourth straight year, becoming the first UVa wrestler to earn the honor four times. Spisak and Sulzer each were honored for the second consecutive year.

Fausey qualified for the NCAA Championships for the fourth straight year. Despite battling a slew of injuries, Fausey went 15-11 in his senior season on the mat and concluded his career with 98 victories, which ranks 10th in program history.

Now a three-time NCAA qualifier, Sulzer earned All-America honors for the second straight year after capturing fourth place at 165 pounds at the NCAA Championships. He went 36-3 on the year and won the ACC and Las Vegas Invitational championships.

Spisak earned his second bid to the NCAA Championships in 2014 while going 19-14 at 141 pounds. He took runner-up honors at the Southern Scuffle, defeating a pair of All-Americans en route to the title match.
