Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia men’s golfer Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) has been named a second-team All-American by Golfweek. It marks the second straight year he has received All-America honors. Last season he was an honorable mention All-American on the PING team.

McCarthy finished his junior year with a 70.38 stroke average and he was ranked No. 8 in the final Golfstat individual rankings. He was the runner-up at the ACC Championships and placed sixth at the NCAA Columbia Regional. He also finished in sixth place at the NCAA Championships, UVa’s second-best individual finish in program history. McCarthy carded a four-under par 206 (65-71-70) on the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

Earlier this year McCarthy was named to the PING All-East Region squad and the Virginia Sports Information Director’s (VaSID) Golfer the Year. He was also an All-ACC selection.

McCarthy is currently competing at the British Amateur Championship. Today’s second round of play was suspended due to fog.
