Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia swept the top three honors on the 2014 VaSID All-State Women’s Golf team that was released today by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The team combines players from both the University and College divisions.

Virginia junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) was named the VaSID golfer of the year, freshman Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was the rookie of the year and head coach Kim Lewellen was tabbed as the coach of the year.

Coughlin and Diaz-Yi were joined on the first-team all-state squad by senior teammate Elizabeth Brightwell (Nellysford, Va.). Also voted as first-team selections were Old Dominion’s Elizabeth Haycock (Birmingham, England) and Longwood’s Amanda Steinhagen (Oak Hill, Va).

Coughlin led Virginia with a 74.61 stroke average and helped the Cavaliers to a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships and a runner-up showing at the ACC Championships. Diaz-Yi was UVa’s top performer at the NCAAs, finishing 28th overall. Brightwell ended her senior season with a 75.39 stroke average and had a pair of top-10 finishes.

Haycock tied for ninth at the C-USA Championship and finished the season with a 75.2 stroke average. Steinhagen was an All-Big South selection after leading the Lancers with a 74.88 stroke average. She had five top-10 finishes in nine tournaments and took medalist honors at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate.

Lewellen led the Cavaliers to a 20th-place finish in both the Golfstat and Golfweek polls despite not having a single player on the roster named to the All-ACC squad. UVa’s appearance at the NCAA Championships was the sixth in Lewellen’s seven-year tenure with the Cavaliers.

The second team was comprised of two golfers from James Madison (Ginger Mak and Shabril Brewer), Old Dominion’s Kimberley Bradbury, Hollis’ Elizabeth Cheng and Randolph-Macon’s Olivia Bowling.
