AIGUEBELETTE, France-Former Cavaliers claimed four medals at the World Rowing Cup II regatta on Lake Aiguebelette in France, June 20-22.

Susanne Grainger (’13) and Christine Roper (’11) earned silver with the Canadian women’s eight, while Roper also claimed silver with the women’s four. Grainger also competed with the women’s pair, placing eighth overall.

Former UVa softball and volleyball standout Meghan O’Leary (’08) took home silver for Team USA in the women’s double and with the result, O’Leary and teammate Ellen Tomek, will represent the United States at the World Rowing Championships, to be held Aug. 24-31 in Amsterdam. The duo competed at the 2013 World Championships, placing seventh in the event, and earned bronze at the 2013 World Rowing Cup III regatta.

This is the fourth medal on the senior international stage for Grainger, a 2013 graduate. Grainger was a part of the Canadian women’s eight that picked up bronze medals at the 2013 World Rowing Cup I regatta in Sydney and at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, South Korea. She earned bronze in the women’s pair earlier in the year at the 2014 World Rowing Cup I regatta in Sydney.

Roper earned two medals for Canada at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, including silver in the women’s four and bronze in the women’s eight.

Two other former Virginia rowers, Inge Janssen (’10) and Katrin Reinert (’11), competed in France. Janssen placed fourth with the Dutch women’s double, while Reinert and the German women’s eight finished fifth.
