LUCERNE, Switzerland-Former Virginia rowers Susanne Grainger (’13) and Christine Roper (’11) earned gold medals at the World Rowing Cup III regatta July 11-13 in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The duo were part of the Canadian women’s eight that finished first, improving on their second-place finish at the WRC II regatta in Aiguebelette, France, in June. It is the first senior international gold medal for Grainger and the second for Roper, who earned gold with the women’s four at the WRC I regatta in 2013.

Katrin Reinert (’11) finished fourth as part of the German women’s eight, while 2014 graduate Constanze Duell (Oberschleissheim, Germany) made her senior international debut for Germany, finishing fourth as part of the women’s four.

Former UVa volleyball and softball standout Meghan O’Leary (’08) placed fifth with the American women’s double, while Inge Janssen (’10) of The Netherlands finished second in the C final of the women’s single (14th overall).
