CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Now three weeks removed from the College World Series, members of the Virginia baseball team have stayed busy this summer, spreading across the nation to compete in summer leagues.

Five Cavaliers are competing in the Cape Cod League. Infielder John La Prise is batting .435 (10-for-23) in 10 games with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, while Joe McCarthy is hitting .368 (7-for-19) with the Harwich Mariners.

Four UVa players are competing on the same team, the Keene Swamp Bats in the NECBL. Rising sophomore pitchers Alec Bettinger and Connor Jones each are off to solid starts. Bettinger has allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out 10 in 7 1/3 innings. Jones has allowed four hits while fanning seven in seven innings.

Rising sophomores Tyler Allen, Tony Butler and Matt Thaiss all are playing for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League. Kevin Doherty is competing locally for the Waynesboro Generals in the Valley League.
