Frank Wins USTA Futures Event in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – Virginia rising senior Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) won the singles championship Sunday at the Tulsa Pro Classic, a $10,000 event on the USTA Futures Tour. It was Frank’s first career Pro Circuit title as he becomes the second active Cavalier to win a singles title on the USTA Futures Tour, joining Somdev Devvarman in 2008.

Frank, who is currently ranked No. 833 in the world, was not seeded at the tournament, but didn’t drop a set during five victories over the week. He defeated each of the top three seeds in the draw to capture the title. In the quarterfinals, Frank downed third-seeded Luke Bambridge of Great Britain, the world No. 577, 7-5, 6-3. A day later, he topped world No. 558, Sebastian Boltz of France, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals. In Sunday’s final, Frank cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over top-seeded Liam Broady of Great Britain, currently ranked No. 395 in the world.

Also competing in Tulsa was rising sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament. As a duo, the team of Frank and Kwiatkowski advanced the semifinals of the doubles draw.
