CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia fans are encouraged to wear orange and blue to support “Paint the Town Orange” and College Colors Day on Friday, Aug. 29. The annual “Paint the Town Orange” Pep Rally will be held that night at the Charlottesville Downtown Pavilion at 8:15 p.m. The Virginia football team opens the 2014 season Saturday, Aug. 30 at Scott Stadium against UCLA. Kickoff is set for noon.

The Cavalier spirit squads will be on the Downtown Mall starting at 6 p.m. distributing promotional items and greeting fans. The Virginia men’s and women’s basketball teams will also be making appearances and signing autographs. The Cavalier Marching Band will march from the west end of the Downtown Mall to the pavilion at approximately 7:45 p.m. The pep rally will begin at approximately 8:15 p.m. with appearances by head football coach Mike London and the 2014 Virginia football captains.

“We’re excited to kickoff another year of Virginia athletics with the community,” said Todd Goodale, UVa associate athletics director for external affairs. “Paint the Town Orange has become a great Charlottesville tradition over the past 25 years and we’re always excited to see the great turnout on the Downtown Mall.”

The Virginia athletics department invites area businesses to join its free Cavalier Partners program and help “Paint the Town Orange” leading up to the kickoff.

The athletics department’s marketing and promotions office will provide flags, posters, schedule cards, and other materials to help local businesses show their support.

Businesses may sign-up to participate in the Cavalier Partners program online to receive promotional materials at VirginiaSports.com/cavalierpartners. Participants can arrange to pick-up these items or have them delivered by calling (434) 982-5600 or by sending an email to Terri Mattie at tlm5g@virginia.edu.

Pictures of decorated businesses will be part of an online photo gallery at VirginiaSports.com/cavalierpartners. One participating business will be selected to win tickets or a Virginia Athletics prize pack each week during the 2014 football season. Photos may be submitted by email to tlm5g@virginia.edu.
