AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands-Two former members of the Virginia rowing program, Susanne Grainger (’13) and Christine Roper (’11), earned silver medals as the World Rowing Championships concluded Sunday (Aug. 31).

Grainger and Roper were a part of the Canadian women’s eight that placed second to the U.S. eight 5:56.83-5:59.66. Canada finished ahead of China, Romania, Russia and Great Britain. Grainger and Roper earned bronze with the eight at last year’s World Championships.

Also competing in the women’s eight was Katrin Reinert (’11), who was a part of the German crew that won the B final to place seventh overall.

Kerry (Maher) Shaffer (’07) and the Canadian women’s four qualified for the A final and placed fifth overall.

Former UVa volleyball and softball standout Meghan O’Leary (’08) and the American women’s double finished sixth in the A final, while Inge Janssen (’10) in the Dutch double won the B final to place seventh overall.
