Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s golf team has been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America with its All-Academic Team award. The Cavaliers were one of 83 teams NCAA Division I programs to post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.

“At the beginning of the year our team set the goal to be a top 10 team and be honored as an All-Academic Team so I am extremely proud of our guys for their work in the classroom this past spring” said Virginia coach Bowen Sargent. “With eight of our 10 team members making over a 3.0 this award speaks to our team’s commitment to excellence in the classroom. I couldn’t be more proud of last year’s team, their work in the classroom and golf course puts them in a category of the most elite programs in the country as only a handful attained both.”

Virginia had two members of the 2013-14 team named to the Atlantic Coast Conference’s All-Academic Golf Team. Freshman Derek Bard and senior Ben Rusch were recognized for having a grade point average above 3.0.
