Sugar Grove, Ill. – The 13th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team posted the best score of the second round to climb into a tie for third place at the Northern Intercollegiate. The Cavaliers shot 8-over 296 and enter Sunday’s final round with a score of 17-over 593. The 13-team tournament is being played Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Sophomore Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) carded the Cavaliers’ best second-round score, shooting 1-over 73 to move into a tie for 15th place with teammate Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) at 5-over 149. Bard shot 75 during Saturday’s competition.

Freshman Austen Truslow (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) is UVa’s overall leader in ninth place at 4-over 148. Truslow posted a score of 2-over 74 for the second consecutive day.

Ji Soo Park (Clifton, Va.) shot 78 to drop back to 26th at 151 and freshman Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) moved up to 39th overall at 154 thanks to a second-round 74.

Winthrop continues to lead the field. The Eagles shot 14-over 302 on Saturday for a 36-hole total of 587. Purdue is second at 591 and Houston is tied with UVa for third place.

Winthrop’s Zach Seabolt enters the final round with a five-shot lead over Houston’s Martino in the race for medalist honors. Seabolt finished the second round at 6-under 138.

Virginia is without senior All-American Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) in its lineup. He is in Japan preparing for the World Amateur Team Championships.

Virginia will tee off at 9:31 a.m. during the final round. The Cavaliers will be paired with Winthrop and Purdue. Live scoring is online at www.birdiefire.com.
