Cavalier Golfers End Second Round of Cougar Classic in Seventh Place

Sept. 15, 2014 Hanahan, S.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team heads into Tuesday’s final round of play at the 12th annual Powerade Cougar Classic in seventh place. The Cavaliers shot 1-over 289 Monday for a 36-hole total of 1-over 577. Arkansas leads the 23-team field at 9-under 567 at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C. Wake Forest and UCLA are tied for second at 569.

Virginia junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) led the Cavaliers Monday with a 4-under 68. She improved to ninth place with a two-round total of 3-under 141. Sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is UVa’s overall leader in seventh place at 4-under 140. She followed up her opening round 69 with a 1-under performance Monday.

Lauren Coughlin is in 38th place at 147, Briana Mao is 50th at 149 and Lyberty Anderson is 89th at 155. Coughlin shot 74 during the second round while Mao posted a score of 76 and Anderson finished with a 79.

Wake Forest’s Sierra Sims continues to lead the field. She followed up her opening round 65 with a 4-under 68 for a two-day total of 133.

Virginia will start its final round with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Cavaliers will be paired with Duke, Central Florida and Mississippi State. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
