CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman midfielder Tara Vittese has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week after setting up two overtime game-winning goals and leading the Cavaliers to a 3-0 week.

On Friday against Louisville, Vittese intercepted a pass at midfield, raced ahead on a fast break and found Caleigh Foust in front of the goal to set up the game-winner score 1:43 into the second overtime period. She also had a goal and an assist in regulation in the 3-2 victory.

The native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, again set up Foust for the overtime game winner in a 4-3 win on Sunday over Rutgers, this time assisting on the winning score 11:47 into the extra period. Vittese scored all three of the Cavaliers’ goals during regulation, including a pair of penalty strokes to help come back from a two-goal deficit in the second half.

Vittese finished the week with four goals and three assists for 11 points.

Vittese is the first Cavalier to be named the ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week since Elly Buckley earned the honor on Oct. 22, 2013.
