WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team recorded three singles victories during day two action of the Tribe Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 20).

Junior Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), sophomore Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) and freshman Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) tallied singles wins and the doubles tandem of Mercer and freshman Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) added a doubles win.

Epstein posted a 2-6, 6-3, 10-4 win over Penn’s Kana Daniel and Mercer defeated William & Mary’s Julia Casselbury 6-3, 6-2. Faure added a 6-1, 6-0 win over William & Mary’s Melanie Roy. Morton suffered a 6-3, 0-6, 12-10 loss to Penn’s Sol Eskenazi.

In doubles, Morton and Mercer defeated VCU’s Salome Kvitashvili and Olga Barscheuskaya 8-5. Faure and Epstein dropped an 8-5 decision to Dartmouth’s Taylor Ng and Kristina Mathis.

Virginia has a 6-2 singles mark and 4-2 doubles record after two days of competition at the Tribe Invitational.

The Cavaliers are competing in singles and doubles against players from Dartmouth, Indiana, Marshall, Maryland, Penn, VCU, Wake Forest and host William & Mary in the three-day invitational. The action is taking place at three facilities – the Millie West Tennis Facility, Commons Courts and the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center – and concludes Sunday.
