WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team recorded a pair of singles wins to conclude action at the Tribe Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 21).

Juniors Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) and Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) earned singles wins for the Cavaliers against a pair of opponents from Wake Forest. Epstein defeated the Demon Deacons’ Xue Zhang 6-0, 6-2 and Morton added a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kimmy Guerin.

The Cavaliers’ Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) and Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) suffered singles losses against a pair of Maryland Terrapins. Mercer dropped a 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 to Olga Bredikhina and Faure lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Welma Luus.

Mercer and Morton earned individual doubles awards after posting a 3-0 record in the tournament. Mercer and Morton’s undefeated weekend was highlighted by an 8-6 win over Maryland’s No. 55 tandem of Olga Bredikhina and Luus.

The Cavalier finished the invite with an 8-4 singles mark and 4-2 doubles record.

Virginia returns to action at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships from Sept. 27-Oct. 5 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
