UVa Women's Golfers Open in 10th place at Tar Heel Invitational

Oct. 10, 2014 Chapel Hill, N.C. – The 22nd-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is in 10th place following the first 18 holes of play at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Virginia shot 10-over 298 during the opening round to tie for 10th along with three other teams. South Carolina leads the field at 1-under 287.

Virginia was led by sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) who shot 2-under 70 to finish the first round in sixth place. Senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) is in 29th place after shooting 2-over 74. Junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) is in 53rd place with a 76. Junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.), freshman Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield) and freshman Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio) all shot 6-over 78 for the Cavaliers and are tied for 69th place. Kolodzik is playing as a non-scoring individual and her results do not count toward UVa’s team total.

Wake Forest’s Marissa Dodd and NC State’s Augusta James share the lead for medalist honors after they both opened with scores of 4-under 68.
