Oct. 12, 2014 Johnson City, Tenn. – The 21st-ranked Virginia men’s golf team finished sixth when Sunday’s final round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate was cancelled due to rain and unplayable course conditions. The Cavaliers finished at even par 576. Wake Forest won the 15-team event at 18-under 558.

Virginia shot 11-over 299 during the first round and followed that up with a score of 11-under 277 during the second round to complete 36 holes at even par.

Virginia senior Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) finished second at 8-under 136. He shot 69 during the first round and fired a 5-under 67 during the second round. Wake Forest’s Will Zalatoris took medalist honors at 10-under 134.

McCarthy’s finish was his best of the season and marked the 17th time during his career he has recorded a top-10 finish.

UVa junior Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.) finished 40th at 147 (78-69) while sophomore Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and freshman Austen Truslow (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) tied for 48th at 148. Bard had rounds of 77 and 71 while Truslow posted scores of 75 and 73. Sophomore Jimmy Stanger was 56th at 149. He shot 79 and 70. Freshman Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) was 12th as a non-scoring individual competitor. Walker posted rounds of 70 and 72 for a two-day total of 2-under 142.

Virginia wraps up the fall portion of its season this weekend at the U.S. Collegiate played in Alpharetta, Ga., Oct. 17-19.
