CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia midfielder Eric Bird (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. This is the first time Bird has earned conference player of the week honors in his career.

Bird scored the lone goals in a pair of 1-0 Virginia wins over George Mason and Duke last week. He found the back of the net in the second half of the Tuesday road win at George Mason, and headed home what proved to be the game-winning score in the 13th minute of UVa’s Saturday victory over Duke.

A member of the 2014 Hermann Trophy Watch List, Bird also has been a key force on defense, where UVa has recorded three straight clean sheets and held opponents scoreless for the last 350 minutes of game time. His efforts have helped the Cavaliers extend their winning streak to a season-long four matches.

Bird and the 10th-ranked Cavaliers return to play at 6 p.m. Friday at Clemson in a match that will be televised by the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks (Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus in the Charlottesville area).
